SB1006 - SR Adapter Update - Install Shims

SR Adapters - Update and Re-work

Overview

A shipment of 17414 printed circuit boards that were less than the lower limit for thickness was received and entered into production of SR receiver interconnect adapters, which revealed a problem with some models of the adapters.
The problem is that the connector on the adapter does not mate reliably with the connector in the receiver. A poor mating connection can result in an intermittent or non-existent power connection whereby the unit will not power up or will inadvertently lose power.

Adapters that need to be exchanged

The battery sled models in the customer’s hands that are exhibiting this problem should be returned to the factory to be replaced.
• SRBATTSLED Top Version
• SRBATTSLED Bottom Version
The SREXT model does not exhibit this problem, and as such, is not listed in this bulletin.

Adapters that can be updated in the field

The following models may be returned for exchange at the factory, or the problem can easily be resolved in the field by installing the appropriate shim between the circuit board assembly and the panel, using slightly longer screws with the SRUNI and SRSNY.
• SRUNI
• SRSNY
• SRHARNESS
Part numbers and instructions for the update of these three models are included in this bulletin.

SRUNI Update

Placing a shim under the PCB and re-assembling the unit with longer screws takes care of the problem.

SRUNI1

Placing a shim under the PCB and re-assembling the unit with longer screws takes care of the problem.

SRUNI2

Orient the shim to match the opening in the panel. Align the holes and press the shim into the recess in the panel.

SRUNI3

Re-assemble with the longer screws.

SRUNI4

SRSNY Update

Placing a shim under the PCB and re-assembling the unit with longer screws takes care of the problem. The update involves two parts.

SRUNI5

Remove the original screws and separate the connector and PCB assembly. Discard the screws.

SRUNI6

Orient the shim to match the opening in the panel. Align the holes and press the shim into the recess in the panel.

SRUNI7

Re-assemble with the longer screws.

SRUNI8

SRHARNESS Update

The update to this adapter involves the installation of two nylon washers.

SRUNI9

The washers are installed between the circuit board and panel to prevent warping the circuit board when the screws are tightened.

SRUNI10

First remove the two screws that retain the circuit board.

SRUNI11

Insert the washers between the circuit board and mounting tabs on the panel. Gently apply pressure to the circuit board to pull it slightly away from the tabs to allow room for the washers to be inerted. A tool such as a small screwdriver can be used to move the washers into place.

SRUNI12

After the tabs are in place, hold gentle pressure on the circuit board to keep the washers from moving. Then turn the assembly over and align the holes in the washers with the holes in the circuit board and threaded holes in the mounting tabs. A small, pointed tool with a dull tip such as a paper clip can be used to reach through the hole and make adjustments to the washer location. Gently move the circuit board with your fingers to align the holes with the threaded holes in the panel.

SRUNI13

Replace the screws and tighten them snugly. Be careful not to overtighten them.
