Lectrosonics Enters Test And Measurement Market

For Wireless Guitar, Lectrosonics will be the place to visit

At the AES convention in October 2004, Lectrosonics will be introducing the TM400, a new wireless system designed for sound system test and measurement. This system uses Lectrosonics’ Digital Hybrid™ technology to encode the audio signal into a 24-bit d igital data stream, and then transmits this signal via a proprietary coding method over an analog FM UHF carrier. This unique approach a voids the use of an analog compander while maintaining frequency response of 30 Hz to 20 kHz ± 1dB and a signal to noise ratio of 107dB. By using the analog UHF transmission scheme and high RF power, the TM400 provides extended range and dropout-free audio.

The TM 400 system consists of the UH400TM 100mW plug-on transmitter, which is capable of providing phantom power for use with any standard calibration microphone; the R400 receiver; and a waterproof carrying case. With this system, no additional specialized cables or external phantom power supplies are required.  Initially, Lectrosonics will be delivering the TM400 system in two frequency blocks (563.200-588.700MHz, and 691.200-716.700) with each block providing 256 selectable frequencies.

"We’ve been told by some of the top people in the audio analysis field that a good wireless system for test and measurement is the 'holy grail' for sound system design and testing,” states Karl Winkler, director of business development at Lectrosonics. “The main advantages are savings in weight, time, and signal quality (no losses due to long cable runs). In fact, we’re excited about the possibility that our system may change how test & measurement is accomplished,” says Winkler.

The TM400 Digital Hybrid test and measurement system will be available starting in December 2004, with an MSRP of $1,890.
