Machinist II – Day Shift

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Under direct supervision performs a variety of routine tasks which include setting up and operating a combination of the following machines and equipment; hydraulic, kick, punch and drill press, lathe, milling, shearing, CNC operation (no programming or setup), saw cutting and dual grinding/buffing machine, belt sander, surface grinder, captive hardware inserter, tumbler and band saw.  In addition, performs buffing, deburring, polishing, filling and cleaning machines and sweeping the floor. 

Although the above is typical of the duties and responsibilities normally performed, additional duties and responsibilities requiring essentially the same skills, knowledge and dexterity may be required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

High school graduate or equivalent required.  Must be familiar with blueprint reading basics. Must have completed at least (2000) hours toward standard (8000) hour machinist apprenticeship program or equivalent vocational training.  Must possess at least (6) months of additional experience setting up and operating various machines, equipment and tools typically found in a mid to large size machine shop.  Basic CNC operation helpful.

MACHINES, EQUIPMENT & TOOLS NORMALLY USED

Hydraulic, kick, punch and drill press, lathe, milling, shearing, saw cutting and dual grinding/buffing machine, CNC mill, belt sander, surface grinder, tumbler, band saw, propane torch, measuring tools, various power and hand tools, captive hardware inserter, high pressure air hose, roll-around wagon, jigs and fixtures and occasionally the telephone. Safety glasses must be worn at all times while in the machine shop.  Additional safety equipment to be worn or utilized as indicated by company policy or applicable State and Federal regulations

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Normal machine shop equipment and machine noise, some vibration, metal chips and shavings, lubricating oil and grease. Tasks require sitting for prolonged periods, walking, carrying and some lifting.
