Belt-pack transmitters are typically packaged in small housings with an attached clip that allows them to be secured to a belt or other item of clothing with a small lavaliere microphone attached close to the user's mouth. Their size also allows them to be placed in a pocket or pouch, or mounted directly on a camera (or camcorder).

Some models, such as the MM400 series, are water resistant, allowing them to be used under extreme conditions, and newer models from Lectrosonics are small enough to be concealed under clothing making them ideal for theatre or other live venues.
